Maximum earnings subject to social security tax for 2011 is $106,800 and for 2012 was raised to $110,100. For 2011, the employee portion of social security withholding has been reduced from 6.2% of wages to 4.2%. The 4.2% has been extended by Congress until February 29, 2012.
Maximum amount of earnings to still receive full benefits if you are under full retirement age for 2011 is $14,160 and for 2012 it is $14,640.
